Sunday 8th June

We left Frankfurt on the 7:17 train for Mainz, and caught the 8:45 K-D Line boat. It was a very relaxing day. At first the Rhine flows through fairly flat country, villages by the river, agriculture, not animals.

Then after Rudesheim you reach the UNESCO World Heritage listed section, with steep hills, vineyards and castles.

After Koblenz, it is flatter again, and beginning to get more industrialised. The river flows quite quickly, and the barges glide along in both directions. We had tea on board, because we didn't reach Koln until 20:00.

We found our hostel about 100m up the road from the Hilton, but there the similarities end. I just hope it will be quieter than Frankfurt. (Monday a.m. - a vain hope, especially with the Euro Cup football; Germany playing this night).(Someone is interfering. I slept better here than Frankfurt.)
