Monday 9th June

I did a load of washing, we walked to the supermarket, and at 10:30 went to the cathedral for a guided tour.

Its stone is very dirty from pollution, and this spoils the look from the outside, but it is still pretty impressive.

It is most famous for its reliquary containing the bones of the 3 wise men, which came via Milan from Syria or some such place. Examination in the middle of the 19th century declared that they were the bones of 3 men of different ages, which they say confirmed the tradition that the 3 magi were young, middle aged and old respectively. A rather convenient exam.

After lunch, we went to catch the hop on/off bus, but on Mondays the 13:10 bus doesn't go. So we paid E10 to ride the little train to the 'Chocolate Museum', only to find when we got there that it was closed on Mondays, (Most Koln museums are.) Nice if they'd told us before we paid our money. We got off anyway, and caught the next hop on/off, did its circuit, then went back to the cathedral on the little train.

Wandered around the shopping areas, then came back to cook our own tea. Tonight Netherlands is playing Italy, so the TV sets everywhere are not quite as popular as they were last night.
