Tuesday 5 August York

After a substantial English B and B breakfast, we walked and walked, seemingly for miles, to what we were told was the nearest laundromat, waited there while the machine did its thing, then walked all the way back to the B and B and did our traditional draping of the room, then went into town through the gardens.

As we've been to York before, we've seen most of the usual tourist things. Last time, however, we missed seeing Jorvik, which is a reconstruction of life in York in AD 945, based on a big archaeological project in the '70s and '80s; so we stood in line

and went to see it this time - no photos allowed, see the web if you're interested.
When we came out it was drizzling rain, so we found some shelter and ate sandwiches for lunch, then looked at the guides to see if there was anything else we wanted to see. Nothing really grabbed us so we walked towards the National Rail Museum, which led us past Varsity, the bar/cafe we did internetting at last night (free WiFi). So we went in and had a drink and did a bit more internetting. (We had a lot of catching-up to do after so long being unable to get on line in the past couple of weeks).
After that we went on to the Rail Museum, which we had found to be so good in 2000. To add to the attraction, admission is now free.

It was just as good as we remembered and we spent the rest of the afternoon there. Then we went back into town,

getting to the cathedral to do our shopping just before they closed. By then it was time for afternoon coffee at Varsity, followed by dinner, and about three hours of internet.
